"Topo Chico Recall: FDA Upgrades Health Warning in 5 States"

An Ongoing Topo Chico Recall Due to Pseudomonas Contamination

As a heatwave approaches and temperatures soar across the United States, staying hydrated is crucial for maintaining good health. While water is always a go-to option, why not enjoy a refreshing bottle of Topo Chico mineral water to beat the heat?

However, before you indulge in a crisp bottle of mineral water, it's essential to check the lot code, as thousands of Topo Chico products have been recalled in several states.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently announced that the ongoing recall of 4,338 bottles of Topo Chico carbonated mineral water has been classified as a Class II health risk.

A Class II designation indicates that the use or exposure to a recalled product may lead to temporary or reversible adverse health effects or pose a remote risk of serious health consequences, according to the FDA.

The recall of Topo Chico products was initiated voluntarily by the Coca-Cola Company, the owner of the Topo Chico brand. The recall, which began on May 28, primarily affects mineral water products due to Pseudomonas contamination.

Pseudomonas is a type of bacteria commonly found in water, soil, and produce. While it can potentially cause infections in the ear, eye, lung, skin, or blood, individuals with healthy immune systems are typically not at high risk of infection.

The recalled Topo Chico mineral water bottles were distributed in five states: Arizona, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, and Texas. The affected product is described as follows:

  • Product: Topo Chico Mineral Water Carbonated 16.9 FL OZ (500mL) bottle
  • Product quantity: 241 cases with 18 16.9 oz (500mL) bottles per case
  • UPC: 0 21136 18061 9
  • Case UPC: 0 21136 18062 6
  • Lot #11 A 2543, Lot #12 A 2543, & Lot #13 A 2541
  • Manufactured in Mexico

Costco members who purchased the affected Topo Chico products are advised to check the lot code, which can be found on the case and each bottle's neck.
