"Wegmans Recalls Braised Beef: Foreign Material Alert!"

A Popular Supermarket Recalls Meat for Possible Foreign Material

We all have that favorite supermarket or two where ready-to-eat meals make dinner feel like you didn’t take any shortcuts, when you totally did. With its 100-plus locations in nine East Coast states and Washington, D.C., Wegmans is one hotspot that customers know they can count on to deliver that kind of deliciousness. But if you recently purchased a sous vide-style entree from their cases, an early-week recall is getting pretty specific about matter that’s been identified in the product.

Wegmans Cook in Bag Braised Beef Recall

Late Monday, Wegmans announced a recall for Wegmans Cook in Bag Braised Beef with Vegetables. The reason for the recall is listed as “potential white rubber foreign material.” How this matter arrived in the product is not explained, but the apparent chain-wide recall suggests the error may be on the part of the supplier.

Product Information for the Recalled Braised Beef

Wegmans shared the following identifying information to locate the recalled braised beef:

  • UPC: 100-77890-61671-7
  • Best by date: 04/16/2025

If you purchased the product, the company advises you can return it to your local Wegmans customer service desk for a full refund. For any questions or concerns regarding the recall, customers can contact Wegmans Food Markets at 1-855-934-3663.

Rise in Recalls Due to Foreign Matters

There’s been an uptick in recent recalls due to foreign matter found in products. Earlier this month, chocolate company Tony Chocolonley recalled two of its products after consumers discovered the presence of small stones, and earlier in March nearly 30,000 pounds of Chomps jerky was recalled for possibly containing metal fragments. Close inspection and swift government communications were becoming remarkably reliable before the change in administration, whose layoff of FDA staff could affect the way product recalls reach the public.
