Popular Vitamin C and Allergy Products Recalled Nationwide for Risk of ‘Life-Threatening Reaction’

Allergy symptoms have already been kicking up across the country in unique ways this year. If you’ve sought relief in an over-the-counter medication sold at major retailers, the FDA has an alert that just might affect you.

A March 27 FDA announcement notes Blueroot Health in Connecticut is voluntarily recalling two lots of Vital Nutrients Aller-C dietary supplements after routine internal testing revealed the capsules may contain undeclared egg, hazelnut, and soy. “People who have allergies and/or severe sensitivity to egg, hazelnut, and soy run the risk of a serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume this product,” the alert says.

This recall is especially notable: Aller-C markets itself as a clean, hypoallergenic formula, promoted as vegan, non-GMO, gluten-free, and soy-free, with no artificial flavors, colors, or binders. The supplement combines Isoquercitrin, a clinically studied form of quercetin, with vitamin C, citrus bioflavonoids, and bromelain to support respiratory and sinus function.

The recalled product is sold in white plastic bottles of 100 or 200 capsules and may be available through VitalNutrients.co, Amazon, Walmart, and other online retailers nationwide. Check your bottle for these lot numbers and expiration date:

  • Vital Nutrients Aller-C (200-count) – UPC 693465524213 or 693465000090, Lot 25E04-B, Expiration 05/27
  • Vital Nutrients Aller-C (100-count) – UPC 693465524114 or 693465000083, Lots 25E04-A and 25E04-B, Expiration 05/27

The FDA announcement stated no illnesses had been reported to date. Still, “Consumers who have purchased this product are asked to immediately discontinue use and return the product to Blueroot Health for a replacement product,” reads the FDA announcement.
