Breaking News: Peanut Recall Due to Glass Concern
Once again, the issue of foreign matter contamination in food products has made headlines. This time, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for two brands of peanuts due to the presence of glass inside the sealed containers.
This latest incident marks the fourth FDA alert in the past year that has cited concerns for glass in food packaging. The recall, which affects 2,310 containers of Chilli Spanish Peanuts, has prompted widespread concern among consumers nationwide.
The Recalled Brands
The two brands of peanuts subject to the recall are First Street and Treasured Harvest. First Street, a store-owned brand at Smart & Final supermarkets, packaged the recalled peanuts in 11-ounce clear plastic containers with specific lot numbers and expiration dates.
Treasured Harvest, on the other hand, distributed the peanuts in a 25-pound clear plastic container with a unique lot number and expiration date. Known for distributing a variety of nuts, dried fruit, and other food products, Treasured Harvest products are sold at retailers such as Kroger and Amazon.
The Company Behind the Recall
Western Mixers Produce & Nuts, Inc., based in Ontario, California, is the recalling firm for both the First Street and Treasured Harvest brands. The distribution of the contaminated peanuts was limited to two consignees with a total of 53 retail locations nationwide.
Following the FDA's investigation, the recall was classified as a Class II risk level, indicating a situation where exposure to the violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences.
Recent Recalls and Consumer Safety
This latest recall adds to a series of food safety concerns in recent months. In February 2026, more than 37 million pounds of rice, dumplings, and noodles sold at major retailers, including Trader Joe's and Kroger, were recalled due to potential contamination issues.
As consumers, it is crucial to stay informed about product recalls and food safety alerts to protect our health and well-being. By being proactive and aware of potential risks, we can make informed decisions when purchasing and consuming food products.
