Popular Frozen Fish Recalled in 7 States

Nothing beats the convenience of having a bag of frozen fish stashed away in your freezer for those hectic days when meal prep seems impossible. It's a quick and easy way to get a healthy dose of protein on the table with minimal effort. However, customers of BJ's Wholesale Club stores in seven U.S. states recently received a concerning warning regarding their beloved Atlantic salmon.

According to a notice dated Wednesday, February 11, North Carolina-based regional outlet Watauga Democrat published details about a recall of Atlantic salmon sold under the Wellsley Farms brand. The recall was initiated due to the potential contamination of the product with Listeria monocytogenes.

The affected product, Slade Gorton & Co., Inc.'s Wellsley Farms Farm-Raised Atlantic Salmon, was sold in two-pound bags with lot number 3896 and UPC code 888670025963. The recall is limited to BJ's Wholesale Club stores in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, and Virginia, with sales occurring between January 31 and February 7, 2026.

The presence of listeria, a bacteria known for causing foodborne illnesses, was detected through random sampling by the FDA. While there have been no reported illnesses as of the February 11 notice, listeria infection can lead to symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. In pregnant women, listeria infection can also result in miscarriages and stillbirths, making it a serious health risk.

Slade Gorton & Co., Inc., the company behind the recalled product, is associated with Massachusetts-based Gorton's seafood products. Both companies share similarities in their logos featuring a fisherman at sea. Slade Gorton offers a wide range of fresh and frozen seafood products from over 25 countries worldwide.

BJ's Wholesale Club is actively notifying its members who may have purchased the recalled product. If you suspect you have the affected salmon in your possession, contact 1-888-628-0730 for instructions on how to receive a full refund and proper disposal guidance.

It is crucial to act promptly if you believe you have purchased the recalled product to avoid any potential health risks associated with listeria contamination.
