Back in February, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an alert regarding the recall of "various cream cheeses and tofu spread" under the Made Fresh Salads label, which were manufactured on Long Island, New York. The FDA highlighted that these five-pound tubs of cream cheese were distributed in areas like Brooklyn, Queens, Bronx, and New York City and may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, a potentially harmful organism. While no illnesses were reported at the time of the initial alert, the FDA has recently escalated the risk level associated with this recall by assigning it a Class I classification. This means that there is a significant probability that the consumption of the affected products could lead to serious health consequences or even death. As of the FDA's update on March 11, a total of 557 five-pound tubs of cream cheese, amounting to 2,785 pounds, have been recalled. All the affected products should have been removed from shelves by now, as they were set to expire on February 27, 2026, or earlier due to the recall. The affected cream cheese flavors include popular varieties like Apple Cinnamon, Blueberry, Garlic & Herb, Jalapeno, Lox, Scallion, Strawberry, Sundried Tomato, Vegetable, Walnut Raisin, and Whipped, as well as Tofu Whipped spread.
