"Big Y Egg Recall Alert: What You Need to Know"

A Popular Regional Supermarket Just Joined in on the Latest Egg Recall

Eggs are one of the most diverse ingredients to add more protein to a meal any time of day, but Tuesday brought news that eggs sold in at least two states—Arkansas and Missouri were named—had been recalled over the concern of Salmonella bacteria contamination. Now customers who frequent a Northeast-based retailer are facing a similar advisory—and with “Sell By” dates that last for a few more weeks, it might be time to check your refrigerator.

Late Tuesday, the supermarket chain Big Y announced a recall of its Big Y 12-count Jumbo Brown Eggs. Big Y’s website lists store locations in Connecticut and Massachusetts. The announcement does not specify how many individual 12-count cartons of eggs are affected, though a product image is provided.

Product details are:

  • Big Y 12-count Jumbo Brown Eggs
  • UPC: 1889431914
  • Size: 12-count
  • Sell By Dates: 10/23/25 and 10/24/25

Initiated by Topco Associates, the recall went into effect because “the eggs have the potential to be contaminated” with the bacteria Salmonella. As further detailed: “A supplier site has had positive swab tests at their processing center but have not had any eggs or food contact surfaces test positive for salmonella currently.” A website for Topco Associates states the company works with leading food industry members-owners and customers, “including grocery retailers, wholesalers and food service companies.”

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is reportedly investigating the matter, and Big Y says the supplier’s internal quality assurance team is also conducting its own review with the goal of properly addressing the situation and identifying potential methods to prevent a similar incident in the future.

The retailer says customers interested in a refund can either return the product to a Big Y store or bring in a proof of purchase if choosing to dispose of the eggs first.
