Popular Pickle Brand Gedney Recalls Over 42,000 Jars of Pickles in One State

When it comes to pickles, there are endless options to choose from, including dill, gherkins, sweet, bread and butter, and Kosher pickles. Not only do pickles add a tangy flavor to your favorite dishes, but recent research suggests that they may also have benefits for your gut and kidneys.

However, consumers in one Midwest state should be aware of a recent recall involving Gedney brand pickles. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced a widespread recall of several types of pickles, including dill, zinger, and ghost pepper pickle products. The recall seems to affect a total of 42,240 pickle jars across various varieties.

The recalling company, Gedney Foods Product, LLC of Bloomington, MN, packages pickles under the Gedney brand. Additionally, they supply pickles under two other labels: Cain’s and the well-known canned produce brand Del Monte.

According to the FDA, the recall was initiated due to some jars that were inadvertently sold when they should have been disposed of because of product and container damage. The report does not specify how the issue was first discovered.

The recalled pickles were distributed only in Minnesota. The Gedney website lists retailers where their products may be available in the state, including Target, Rainbow Foods, Cub, Hy-Vee, Miners, Kowalski’s, and Fareway.

The recall was first initiated on June 9 and was classified as a Class II recall, indicating that while there may be temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences from the product, the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.
