Walmart's Recall of Dinty Moore Beef Stew Sparks Concerns

Recent news has unveiled a troubling recall affecting canned soup products sold by various grocery chains across the United States. Following Wegmans' recall due to potential contamination with wood material, Walmart issued an alert last Thursday regarding the recall of approximately 256,185 pounds of Dinty Moore Beef Stew, manufactured by Hormel Foods Corporation.

The recall was initiated by Hormel Foods after receiving three consumer complaints reporting the presence of wood in the product. The U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) published a report confirming the recall and highlighting the potential risks associated with consuming the contaminated stew.

Hormel Foods, known for its diverse range of brands including Applegate, Skippy, and Spam, in addition to Dinty Moore, prioritized customer safety by acting promptly upon receiving reports of product contamination.

Although the FSIS has classified the recall as nationwide, Walmart specified that the affected product was distributed to stores in 44 states and Washington, D.C., including Alaska, California, Florida, New York, Texas, and more.

Target also joined in on the recall, providing customers with essential information such as the item number, lot number, best-by date, and retail price of the recalled Dinty Moore Gluten-Free Beef Stew.

According to the FSIS report, the cans in question were produced on February 4, 2025, with detailed specifications including product size, lot code, and establishment number. The agency has labeled this recall as a Class I event, indicating a high level of health risk to consumers.

Despite no confirmed reports of injuries related to the recalled product at present, the FSIS advises individuals who may have consumed the stew and are concerned about potential health issues to seek medical guidance.

As a precautionary measure, consumers are encouraged to either dispose of the recalled product or return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
