Important Update on Cabot Creamery Butter Recall
Recently, there has been an important update regarding the butter recall issued by major dairy company Cabot Creamery. The recall, initiated due to potential bacteria contamination, has raised concerns among consumers. However, Cabot Creamery has now clarified some crucial details related to the recall.
Clarifications from Cabot Creamery
In response to the news reports and FDA announcement, Cabot Creamery released a statement to address the misconceptions surrounding the recall. The company emphasized that the risk posed to consumers was misrepresented in various news outlets.
The only product affected by the recall is the 8 oz Extra Creamy Premium Butter, Sea Salted, from a specific lot with the code 090925-055. The company has confirmed that 99.5% of the recalled butter was recovered before reaching customers, limiting the exposure to the contaminated product.
Extent of the Recall
Out of the total 1,701 pounds of butter recalled, only 17 packages (8.5 pounds) were not recovered in time and reached retail locations. These packages were distributed only in Vermont, with no shipments to other states like New York, Pennsylvania, Maine, Connecticut, New Hampshire, and Arkansas.
According to Cabot Creamery, the cause of the contamination has been identified, and necessary actions have been taken internally to address the issue. The company reassures consumers that no other products were affected, and they remain committed to ensuring food safety and product quality.
Reason for Recall
The recall was initiated due to an elevated level of coliform bacteria in the affected butter. Coliform bacteria presence in dairy products is often an indicator of fecal or environmental contamination, as highlighted in a study published in Frontiers in Microbiology.
Although classified as a Class III recall by the FDA, indicating a low risk of adverse health consequences, Cabot Creamery stresses that there have been no reports of illness or consumer complaints related to the recalled butter.
