Update on Ben’s Original Rice Recall for ‘Possible Presence of Stones’
Recently, a popular rice brand, known for its quality and taste, made headlines for all the wrong reasons. Ben’s Original, previously known as Uncle Ben’s, underwent a major recall due to the potential presence of stones in three of its rice varieties. This recall caused concern among consumers and the FDA, leading to swift action to ensure public safety. Now, a critical update has emerged, shedding light on the distribution and scope of the recall.
When Mars, Inc., the owner company behind Ben’s Original, announced the recall last October, it sent shockwaves through the industry. The FDA alerted consumers that certain batches of Ben’s Original Long Grain White, Whole Grain Brown, and Long Grain & Wild Ready Rice may contain small, naturally occurring stones from the rice farm. This discovery prompted a nationwide recall, impacting various retailers across the country.
Today, an FDA update reveals the extent of the recall, stating that the affected products were distributed to retailers in several states, including California, Georgia, Illinois, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, North Carolina, Texas, and Wisconsin. A total of 19,956 eight-ounce packages were pulled from shelves to prevent any potential harm to consumers.
It is important to note that no injuries or illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled rice. However, the FDA issued the recall out of caution, as the presence of stones could pose a risk of oral or digestive tract injury if consumed. The agency has classified this recall as a Class II risk, indicating a situation where the adverse health consequences are temporary or medically reversible.
The expiration dates on the recalled rice extend through August 2026. The specific product details provided by the FDA include:
- Ben’s Original Ready Rice Long Grain & Wild, UPC 0 54800 42331 6, lot codes 533BMGRV22, 533CLGRV22, 533CMGRV22
- Ben’s Original Ready Rice Original Long Grain White, UPC 0 54800 42333 0, lot codes 533ELGRV22, 534ALGRV22
- Ben’s Original Ready Rice Whole Grain Brown, UPC 0 54800 42334 7, lot codes 534AMGRV22, 534BMGRV22, 534DMGRV22
In conclusion, it is crucial for consumers to be aware of the ongoing recall and take necessary precautions if they have purchased any of the affected products. By staying informed and following FDA guidelines, we can all contribute to a safer and healthier food supply.
