A Popular Dairy Brand Just Recalled Milk Gallons in 2 States, Reports the FDA
As the holiday season approaches, many families are preparing their favorite recipes that call for a dash of milk. However, a recent announcement from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has brought to light a concerning issue with Prairie Farms Gallon Fat Free Milk.
Prairie Farms, a trusted dairy brand based in Edwardsville, Illinois, has issued a recall for a limited amount of its Fat Free Milk produced at the company's facility in Dubuque, Iowa. The affected milk was distributed exclusively to Woodman's grocery chain locations in two Midwestern states: Illinois and Wisconsin.
According to the FDA, the recall was initiated after the discovery that certain products may contain food-grade cleaning agents, posing a potential health risk if consumed. A total of 320 gallons of the contaminated milk were sold to consumers before the issue was identified.
Upon learning of the quality concern on November 24, Prairie Farms conducted an internal investigation and promptly removed the affected products from store shelves. The recall specifically applies to Prairie Farms Gallon Fat Free Milk with the following details:
- Product: Prairie Farms Gallon Fat Free Milk
- Code Date: DEC08
- Plant Code: PLT19-145
- Facility: Dubuque, Iowa
- Production Window/Time Stamp: 17:51–21:23
- UPC: 7273023117
It is important to note that no other Prairie Farms products are included in this recall. Consumers who have purchased the product with the specified code dates are advised not to consume it and to either dispose of it safely or return it to the store for a refund.
Although Prairie Farms has removed all remaining affected products from store shelves, the FDA has identified additional areas where the contaminated milk may have been distributed. These areas include various locations in Illinois and Wisconsin.
In response to the recall, a Prairie Farms spokesperson stated that the company is cooperating with regulatory authorities and conducting a thorough investigation to determine the cause of the issue and implement measures to prevent future occurrences. Prairie Farms is committed to maintaining the trust consumers place in their products and ensuring product safety moving forward.
As we navigate through this recall, it serves as a reminder of the importance of food safety and quality control in the production and distribution of consumable goods. By staying informed and following recall guidelines, consumers can help protect themselves and their families from potential health risks.
