"Alarming Recall: 11K Blood Pressure Med Bottles Contaminated with Aluminum"

Recall of More Than 11,000 Bottles of Blood Pressure Medication Nationwide

While concerns about the presence of aluminum in certain products, such as antiperspirants, have been raised due to potential cancer risks, experts from the Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center have stated that previous research shows no correlation between aluminum-containing antiperspirants and increased cancer risk, particularly breast cancer.

However, an alert from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued nationwide on Friday morning indicates that aluminum has unexpectedly appeared in a heart medication. The FDA report indicates that a total of 11,328 bottles of 25-milligram Spironolactone Tablets are being recalled across the country. Spironolactone, a generic medication used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure, is known by brand names such as Aldactone and CaroSpir, as reported by the Cleveland Clinic and Mayo Clinic. Additionally, the drug can help reduce fluid retention related to heart, kidney, and liver diseases.

As a diuretic, Spironolactone prevents the body from absorbing excessive salt and helps maintain potassium levels, according to the Mayo Clinic. The recall was initiated due to the presence of aluminum in the medication, although the FDA report does not specify how the aluminum was detected or the potential quantity involved.
